Preventing Your Animal From Becoming Lost by the PetShelter Network
Nobody wants to experience the heartache and trauma of losing a
beloved companion animal. There are a number of preventative
measures that can be taken to prevent this tragedy:
- NEVER leave your animal alone unsupervised
where he can be seen or taken.
- Make sure your animal has proper
identification on at all times. This is
the single most important thing you can do to protect your
animal!
Microchips are highly recommended, because they are a
permanent form of identification.
Medical research labs will not accept animals with tattoos
or microchips!

- When you leave for vacations, make sure your
animal is in capable hands in a safe environment where the
animal will be well-cared for.
- Keep your animals calm and safely confined
during storms or on loud holidays, such as the 4th of July.
Thunderstorms and fireworks often terrify animals and cause them
to flee.
- Develop a relationship with your neighbors and
stay on the lookout for suspicious activity.
